Best picture I've seen in a while. I wonder who made the hat....(LOL)

I mentioned I would be posting this but forgot what thread I said that in but here it is.
Almost certainly hand-made, and well at that, but where did they get such nice piping I wonder...kit?
No tags in it. :( Too bad the person didn't have their own custom labels made like I did through Singer in 1973. :)
It would fit a child about 30" back of the neck to cuff so maybe 5-6 years old?
It has the rating badge of a Chief Boatswain's Mate.
Perhaps the child's Dad was so rated. :) But no hash marks on the sleeve which is odd and unfortunate. :(
When I see such things, in photographs as well, they are 'Boats' or QMs = Quartermasters, which is a ship's wheel.
There is some moth damage but overall was pretty nicely kept. :)
No, the trousers do not have 13 buttons. :(
Neither does the flap have 2 stars.
This may be a clue to age but I've yet to research it.

Wow on that sailor uniform! My 91 year-old uncle, WWII and Korean War vet and navy career man was a boatswain's mate. Those look like official emblems and buttons, perhaps taken from a WWII uniform. Could an official uniform been reworked? Is the fabric wool? This reminds me of my dad's wool navy pants. He had a 32" waist and 32" inseam and I wore his WWII wool navy pants in high school. They had the button down flap front.

Hi! Thanks! And thank you for his service!!! :)
The rating badge is very well made but not adult size.
In boot camp we had mini versions of certain ratings in white but no one would have had a Chief's other than a Chief who was in charge of a group and his badge would be adult sized.
Could be that this was a kit and/or some company was licensed to make the badges just for such things.
I'd say the cuff buttons are normal sized.
It is wool, I forgot to say. :p
Cool you wore the trousers! Still have them?

No, but they were also then worn by my sister, three years younger than me. Wish I did. We didn't have much money growing up and we lived in hand-me-downs. When we found these in Dad's closet, we loved them. Just googled them, they looked like this, and this pair sold for $78. There is quite a hem on the pants in your outfit.... that's why I thought it might be cut down. 1940s_US_Navy_wool_sailor_pants-008_1024x1024 (458x640).jpg

No...the uniform is only about 30" overall and stretch waist.

With the white at the crow's feet,it may be an older U.S. Navy Sea Cadet Corps badge.

The kid who wore that probably went into the Air Force, just to give Dad a hard time.(LOL)

I would drive 80 miles to the Army Navy surplus down in Eureka Cali when I was in High School (71-74) to buy these pants!! I loved them :) If I remember correctly they ran about 12 bucks :)
