Just a few quick and dirty pics. Apparently it's the Wallace Collection at Hertford House. They look like they were done for a book or catalog.

 

I've not been there for years. Must do so.

 

I bought this a little while ago and finally figured out what this blacksmith is - a 1920s Vulcan car mascot

 

neet-o.....is it rare...or hot.....or in demand ???

 

Not rare, I just have to figure out which version this is, something to do with the handle of the mallet

I got the scanner working

The white areas were blocked with paper. Apparently that is how it was done before photoshop.

 

All I found today was a fat load of nada. First, I found streets pretty well-cleared, but with some spots where the plow guys got lazy. I didn't get far, just the local GoodWill, which had nothing much except a package of outdated printer cartridges to turn in for the store credit at Staples. And mailing envelopes for the cards I make.

OTOH if anyone wants to make a road trip to the ReStore and buy a retired Brooks Brothers commercial sewing machine.... Those won't sit around long, but none will follow me home. (thank you Lord for my medical weight restriction, in this case)

I"m not expecting tomorrow or this weekend to be any better. It's supposed to snow again Saturday.(sigh)

 

Today I found these lovely hand painted white glass bottles... bout 6 inches high without the stoppers... The seem to small for decanters? The seem a little large for perfume bottles? I'm not sure...pretty though.

They could be for toilet water. People used to make their own, and used rather a lot of it. Those bottles could be even larger than these.

 

Interesting - there are so many things that I would never even think of! I filled one up with water and it holds just about half a liter.

 

That sounds about right. Homemade lavender water would be about right for that, or maybe witch hazel. Possibly one of each.

 

Pretty indeed. LAte 19th or early 20th. Those are clematis: the fluffy one is tangutica.

I have a pair that are 14" high with a lot of embossed patterns. People just are not into Victorian things. back in the 1980s I could have gotten 750 bucks for the pair, Today I doubt 30 dollars.

Thanks Greg. What's in fashion certainly does change... crazy how the value of objects can change so much... but I thought these were really pretty so well worth the ten bucks for me

 

I'd have grabbed them for that. They'd still sell on pretty.
