I didn't care much until I, literally, saw and heard him work his a** off at the International Hotel in Vegas while recording for an album.

Went to an estate sale this weekend at the home of a former antique dealer. The home was stuffed full with beautiful sterling, fine china and crystal ... a great George Nakashima arm chair ... a breathtaking mahogany campaign desk (shown here in a bad photo from their website - unopened ... the top unfolded to the left and right, creating a large flat leather covered surface where each section lifted once again for more storage underneath the leather covered wood desktop if needed... then a 10 or 12" tall section in back popped up with many small drawers and cubbies. The bottom drawer was fitted to hold the legs and the top drawer was false - when it was pulled out, it caused the central desk section to angle up and be supported by an easel. It was wonderful ... and I suspect that I'll regret buying it over the next few days. Just wanted to share it with all of you!




So here's what I did buy ...
a folded edge glass plate (I really don't think this one is from Mexico ... I have others that are questionable), a hen on nest, and a paperweight marked Baccarat. ($3, $4, and $15 ... which was too much for the paperweight, but it was on the first day)

an interesting and large (but broken) figurine - only $2

a pudding mold with grape pattern and small pastille burner ($12 and $4)

yellow glazed pitcher that they threw in for free because I liked it

some sterling screw back earrings for $5

This old men's linen duster/coat ... discolored ... hoping to either lighten or dye darker ... $3

also picked up an old watering can with a copper rose for $4

here's a ring from the thrift that wasn't a 'steal' but at $55, wasn't bad for 14Kwg, pearl, and small diamonds - I don't like yellow metal and this will do while I search for a cool old platinum one.

 

Last Saturday I watched a collection of Baccarat paperweights sell for up to £5000 each. $15 may not be too much.

I'd love to see the Baccarat.

Those paperweights were, no doubt, pretty spectacular ... mine is scratched and I'll be lucky to see in the neighborhood of $45 for it (it's a catch and release piece )

 

I know people who'd polish it - and have done. The value then is rather splendid.

 

Hmmmm. Might have to look into that.

I think the figurine is Bernhard Bloch majolica ... (I forgot to switch the white balance from outdoor to indoor lighting on the camera so the colors look 'off' on that piece) the bottom is impressed with what looks like their BB mark

 

If it's a decent Baccarat, it's well worth it. The buyer would almost certainly do that.

 

I was so excited to get this Spirit Ball - I collect Halloween and love this type of stuff

I had a pond yacht. We'd sail it on the Whitestone Pond in Hampstead.....
