Thank you Aquitaine. I am using a Nikon Coolpix L820. I don't think it's the camera. I use a lightbox for small things, and I use 2 high wattage daylight balanced bulbs. They are 275W photo bulbs that use 55W of energy, and stay pretty cool, so they don't heat up the area.

I did figure out how to narrow the field on Craigslist today. They are still weird. Yes, a lot less sales here, too. Fortunately, the casinos have rebounded and they are employing people again.... better for the economy all the way around. I did happen upon a very end of the week, end of the last day tag sale yesterday, and the home was magnificent. Didn't buy anything, but it was worth it just to see the home. :) The estate sellers around here now are, how shall I say it, rather supercilious.

    Great finds drg642!
Those mourning armbands are wonderful evelyb30!
Here are a few of mine - the best is the D&E Juliana side clamper bracelet, some pottery, Safeway money bank, Military hat that I think is Dutch, still have to research it, dish made in Italy - love the blue eyes on this, nice little watercolour a, a large photo - unsure if British or Canadian, a 2-tier lamp shade, Caravelle Transistorized floating wall clock and 15 old storm windows.

The funny thing is the Newark survived the War just fine, and went on to serve in WWI as a hospital ship. Why they made a black armband for her I have no idea.

I hate to say it, but it looks almost too good. Did you check the D&E sites to see if you could find a similar one? It's seriously gaudy, so of course I like it. Gaudy is Good.

    Nice! :)
I don't think that's what they are. I think they are hat ribbons.
What is your plan for them please?

Sounds like more reason to look for the sales for many may not.

@evelyb30 I joined the D&E study group on Facebook - it is confirmed D&E Juliana. I would love to find the matching bib necklace:)

    Me too! Gaudy necklaces rock.

Now how did I know? I'm planning on listing the set on Ebay when I get that far. The weird part is I hit these at the tail end of the yard sale run, as in at noon. The right buyer must have blown right past them. They were in with a bunch of old ladies' hankies. Picked up a stack of those too, and a bride's bag. That went to a friend's daughter who actually is getting married.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Evelyb, would you be able to suggest a good reference on hankies... what to look for, genres, etc.? Or anybody, please?

I always dig deep where the hankies are located when I am at sales. I look for the ones that are state souvenirs as well as those that are novelty hankies-- like How To Speak Spanish, French, Italian etc.

Holiday Hankies, Mid Century Modern Pattern Design Hankies and hankies by well known designers from many years ago are good to find. I only buy vintage hankies to resell.

Gila if you do a search on ebay of vintage hankies, you can start to see the names and styles of popular hankies that buyers will go for currently. Also keep an eye out for those designer vintage hankies with a following. I think ebay is a good reference to explore as well as
doing google searches for vintage hankies.
    :)

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Pearlsie, I just happen to have a free evening with nothing to do but watch my new/temporary/not-sure dog sleep. Thank you, much. I'm gonna learn about hankies tonight. I think I'll concentrate on eBay for knowledge about not only what's out there, but who wants 'em and why. :)

I buy what looks cool and makes my spidey sense tingle. In this case, one was a WWII sweetheart hankie, in light purple no less. Another is a silk one still stitched to its original paper backing. One was Japanese with machine-embroidered cranes on it; that went to the bride too.
