one story he told me of was when he first moved out here he bought a house , old barnes place and it was full of antiques i mean valuable ones , he left and came back a few days later and the house was empty everything was gone , he asked the previous owner what happen to all the stuff and the guy told him he took it to the dump !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, my dad rushed out there but it was too late people were picking through it and all that was left was a tie rack and an old dinning room hutch (maybe a stickly have to find the mark now ) he still has them saw them today and told my sis i want the tie rack (missing 1 acorn finial) ,that is all i want to remember him by , i will cherish it till i die. thanks for listening

That tie rack is now officially a family relic; the story, and your dad, are worth more than any antique ever could be.

my dad and i did not see eye to eye when it came to collecting and antiquing he said i was wasting my time and money and to sell my things and use the money on other things , get a job and work it for 40 years and retire , I'm the complete opposite and he hated it .
i never showed him my chair

Virtually no one in the U.S. works at the same company for more than five years anymore unless there's some deep connection.

I would rather be antiquing/collecting , i spent over ten years in the oil fields of sask and albt , i have had to work in - 75 degree wind chills to +40's with major bugs ,and more, i spent weeks to months away from my family , and walked away with nothing, but a thanks, and if i had been at work the day i found my chair i would never had the chance to find it. or any of the things we have . he got to enjoy 11 years of his long retirement it is sad that he has passed but he did what he wanted and died as he wanted in his house, with his dog at his side, not in a hospital sick (the life of an iron worker ) he may have built a building near you as he traveled all over the world building them .
PS. i have been to a lot of iron worker funerals . the are a rare breed and there should be a reality show about them hmmmmm....
pss, thanks to him i never had a fear of heights , just falling . he had some horror stories and pic to go with them .

    Or at least potentially remunerative.

Guys who do that kind of crazy construction stuff are a special breed. For a while here a lot of the high iron guys were Native Americans. Some plains tribes didn't have a fear of heights, and up they went.

Had you not worn hats, as I haven't, perhaps that wouldn't have happened...

King, I've been wondering about that...

My son, who's only 25, is losing his hair (much to his incredible dismay!)

He is only 25, yet his hairline is decidedly receding, and he has a growing bald spot at the top/back of his head. He always used to have such THICK hair!

He ALWAYS wore a hat - for YEARS when he was younger. Do you think it's related???
