This was five bucks at the thrift store. Gotta be worth that in scrap.

Any suggestions on how to re-patinate after removing the hideous paint?

I didn't find a pile of jewelry; it found me. A friend's mom died recently. She was a true hoarder, never threw out a receipt or a pill bottle. He went through the mess once, and yelled for help when he found out I knew costume jewelry. A pile of it is QVC sterling, and another pile was quarter bin stuff. Some is in the middle, and I'm going to get to go through and make notes on it for him. Part of me is yelling "oh goodie" and another part is saying "what have I gotten myself into".(LOL) My reward? Brownie points, most likely.

You never know quite what you will find hidden in the pile of rubbishy plates bought at auction.

Quite a bit of gilding wear and some tiny rim chips but such exquisite detail!

I think you've got the real deal there, rhiwfield. No trouble at all imagining that to be 18thC.

Yes, I think it is Sevres, even the gilder's initials tie in to a 1789 date and the pattern looks very typical (not that I see enough Sevres to really tell!). What do you think it is? The foot is only 2.4" diameter, while the diameter of the whole is 6.9".

Maybe a saucer for a sauce or soup bowl? Seems a bit big for a teacup.
