Oh, the vase is gorgeous!

 

Just got this nifty looking ashtray at a local auction. Only paid a few dollars. It's not worth much but I bought it for the humor. Almost makes me want to start smoking again so I could have some use for it! LOL

I believe the gentlemen's responses would be "AH!"

 

But a "gentleman" would never do what he is doing.
And, what this cad is thinking is likely "Heh heh heh".

Well yes, it is, but one has to consider the times and realize things have changed (one hopes).

 

Surely you folks don't want me to repeat my true story of having the very top of one of my legs encircled by unknown hands from behind when I was standing at a refrigerator at a party sponsored by a church group for "young business and professionals." I had used the maneuver Daddy taught me by quickly sending my right elbow back at a height designed to hit a man (depending on his height) either in a really sensitive area or in his stomach. When I swung my elbow back (first and only time I ever had to use that maneuver) my arm never made contact with the perpetrator (it went over his head).

The real kicker being that after that last incident (and a couple of previous less-blatant but not-polite incidents with two male members of that group) I decided it was time to see if I was causing the problem(s).

I paid $50 (which was quite a bit of money to an independent single woman in the early 1970s) to see a psychiatrist in my city. The psychiatrist made only one comment (but repeated it two or three times) at that one and only $50 appointment and that comment was "I've never seen a dwarf in (name of my city)." I had already had to "educate" the psychiatrist to the fact that I knew the body-build difference between a midget and a dwarf.

 

Just when I think I've heard it all...

 

My mama taught me how to use a well placed stilletto heel. My ex Para Pa taught me how to use finger nails: I keep them long. I may have caused pain over the years.

 

It's termed a 'naughty' and I have one but not in copper.

 

Is that the short answer?

 

Hmmm. Thought this little beauty was a modern miniature vase until I looked a bit closer.

 

18th C, yes? Yummy.

 

Haven't had chance to research it properly yet but I think it may be a bit later, early 19th C.

 

Today's finds on a local auction a pretty Elliot Westminster mantle clock, a W&H clock, a not so old Singer sewing machine and a common prayers book from 1870. Pretty successful day
