A few weeks ago it was horse week, I guess these past couple are watch weeks. One of these pieces only cost a whole $1.

lol komokwa. I probably wouldn't have looked twice at the watch, I like the tile or trivet piece. Now I will know better, thanks for posting nuff!

 

Thanks guys, but I must admit, the tile was the dollar item and probably the most valuable of the two pieces. The watch did come at a steal (not as good as the five-figure watch we purchased a couple pages back ), and glad to have been able to pick it up for pennies on the dollar.

The tile is adhered to an old brass box lid dating to the early-20th C. engraved with a dragon and clouds. I've never seen a tile like this before (not that I've seen everything in the Asian art field). Usually they're in a much larger rectangular form, or the larger roof tile figural forms, or small round form, etc. My guess is the title dates to the previous dynasty (probably Ming?) and could have been once part of a palace interior given the imperial yellow glaze. The Chinese in this era (late-19th/early-20th C.) often adhered or affixed older pieces of objet d'art to "modern" items to make them more attractive to Western tourist as evident in this linked video:

'Nuff_Said, I am absolutely fascinated by the bird(ing) diary/journal. Was a name/address and date(s) written in it? What area(s) of the country (in USA???) were the observations made?

Heavens, if I had that in my hot little hands I wouldn't put it down until I knew if particular birds are still living in the area(s) covered by the journal. I wonder how many of the kinds/types of birds observed by the journal owner are still in that area/those areas or if the birds have migrated and never returned to the area(s) covered in the book.

 

@Your, the bird tablet is inscribed with the former owner's name, but no address or location. There are hand written annotation written throughout regarding the birds and the lithographic images (16 total) and tablet itself are dated 1898. The hand written diary covers a one year span dating circa, 1935-36 and is inscribed with the former owner's name, address and location (Pennsylvania).

@Book, the images below of the marble(?) and cullet are the best we could gather for right now. Hopefully, your expert friend could help and thank you as well for trying to help. The little wooden stand is not original to the piece and was one we had in-stock.

 

'Nuff_Said, now I am doubly intrigued by the birding notebook because of the year it was kept and that it was in Pennsylvania. That is a wonderful find.

The leather diary (a totally separate item with no relation to the bird tablet) is inscribed with the former owner's name, address, location (PA.) and dates circa, 1935-36.

@CX, thank you! Awww, did you see all that's there? The head & face are made up of entirely nude figures (I think all women). His clothing, made of these weird rock-like human figures (sorry, not sure how to describe them). I have no idea who the artist is, but the piece dates, first half of the 20th C. and was cheap!

Ok, I just spent $145 (including shipping) on two watch boxes which cost me more than what we paid for both watches combined . The one is vintage (circa, late-60s to early-70s) and in very good condition for its age and is completely period to the watch posted a couple pages back. The other box is contemporary, and will be housing the recently found Rado that my hubby decided to keep for himself (Happy early Father's Day,...punk! ) If the other watch fails to sell for somewhere around our asking price, no big deal.....we'll just keep it. It's truly a one-of-one and I'm sure the value will just increase with the passing of time.

 

This is the 4000th post, I think. We don't call it snipe here, do we? Lovely things you all have posted!
