The trunk one doesn't have any marks that I can find. The flower shaped one appears to have the French pig head with II under it. The maker's is a D at the base of a chevron.

But did you get that from 925-1000? That's what I was trying to ask. :)

I think on there they just show the pig head with a 2

Didn't somewhere else have a pig too?

Yeah, that's the one. 925-1000 didn't list it anymore.

Here is a Towle thimble shot glass that may have the same number as yours. The number inside is 1135. Not sure if yours is 1133, 1135 or 1138.

Here is a past auction on a Towle silver thimble marked 1135. The pics are not still online.

It seems 99% towle thimbles I have found are called thimble shot glass. Any chance yours is a shot glass size?

@Terry - you should really test the two boxes. They look like Portuguese wirework, marks or no marks; the Portuguese hide them on purpose.

Evelyb, your guess is "spot on" as our British friends would say. Look at replies 3764, 3765 and 3766.

Those are shot glasses. This is actually a small sewing thimble. 1136.

The one box is marked on both parts, the other has no marking. Anyone remember how 707 polished hers?

    Hi,
Where is "plain Sue" she is MIA and those filagree caskets are her forte. I think Bakers is spot on with the Portugal but the cleaning we need Sue. If I was keeping them I would be tempted to use the dreaded Tarnex. Just be sure to immediatley to use a good paste silver polish on them to keep them from turning white and tarnishing quickly. (this advice is given under the influence of no sleep, no coffee and an elevated blood sugar).

I seem to remember her saying she just used silver polish on her filigree - and q-tips.

    19th/early-20th C. Austria bronze box

    'Nuff Said,

Did you notice the Ruby Lane seller is asking $1900 for their frame of the same Austian bronze suite?

    Wow, beautiful stuff!

    @Sharona, very nice!

@Scouts, yes I did notice and thank you! That's about right on a retail level. A more realistic value (or auction value) would be around $400 - $800.

I got nothin' but this large (approx. 30 in & 60 lbs.) Ikea shopping bag full of unsearched costume jewelry and a too large to open and show the full subject matter old Chinese scroll with "organic" ends and "tarnished metal" mounts. Probably not worth the silk and paper it was painted on...

The 925-1000 site is having server issues, now in the process of switching to a new server - the marks section seems to be back up, hopefully the forums will follow soon...
