It really is. But imagine someone selling a family piece like that. Who knows how long it had been in the family.

Charity shop finds. I think the vibrant vase is Murano, some age looking at the base, £3.50. The etching by James Priddey was £4.

Thanks Johnny, the cherry red hue shown in the pic doesn’t really do it justice. My brother collects mid century glass so it’s a nice cheapo Xmas gift this year for him.

The vase was a screaming steal, but I have to admit my personal tastes run to the Coventry etching.

I’ve been to the cathedral and also met the widow of John Hutton, who engraved the angels. It’s a marvellous place.

I think that vase is Japanese and a nice one.

It could be Japanese, I found something pretty close but I wasn't completely convinced it’s a Murano piece.

    I haven't posted a find..in forever,,,,& usually....they ain't that hot !
This is no exception.....but I couldn't pass it bye....
I just happen to be in the area of my 2nd hand store .....so I went for a looky Loo...

About 10 inches..... nice selection of glass....and reasonably well made.... I didn't see a siggy... so maybe glass company...

    . IMG_7828.jpg IMG_7827.jpg

for the lofty price of $ 2.85 ......

I'm not a frog person........ but I've been a stained glass guy for a while now !

On another note.... while I was in the store a couple of large wood Makonde tree of life candlesticks caught my eye . 18 inches or better, I believe.
There's not that much carving of people , because of the candlestick nature of design...but holding them close , the carvings seemed rich and well proportioned .
They're dark...but not that black shoe polish dark , and they have both darker and lighter patches , which leads me to suspect they are older and made of African Ebony.
They are also not perfectly round....or shiny ..as a newer lathe made pair look like.

It's the older.... I'm uncertain of..... and hope they are around the 50's when they started to appear..... but I'll take 60's as well...;)

That said.....I didn't buy them until I could do a deep dive into such an item.... cuz I don't need them.... and they were $ 39.98 the pair.

Now I see lesser ..and newer ones.... for $100 each..... with some costing way less.... but again...for newer, smaller....and black wood or ironwood , rather than ebony, and searching for candlesticks .... I couldn't find that many like them.

I want to test out my new set of rubber......so I may just drive by there tomorrow.

We'll see if the mood strikes me....... as, they make an impressive display !

( they were behind the jewelry counter.... so you had to ask to hold them... so chances are good that they'd still be there...) :wideyed::nailbiting:

Going through the mountain of finds I've slowly picked up over the last few weeks (or more :nailbiting:)... German edition.

Picked up this little German half-doll pin cushion. I can't decide if I want to keep her or not. I found another with the same cushion, so not a home-make, and found one without a bottom so you can see the "GERMANY" impression. IDK what year she is though...dolls aren't my area.

This is the second antique German beer stein I've picked up at a thrift. I guess they always think they're the tourist kind? Google Translate doesn't care for the word "Jaga" so I'm guessing "Hunter"? Merkelbach & Wick company, with impressed logo, and I actually found it in their 1921 catalog. When I bought it I thought it was probably a transfer, but on closer inspection...it seems to be hand-painted! I can't find another of this one, but a different image from the same line with similar condition issues has someone hoping for a 350 payday. LOL Any Stein collectors? :D
