Out of curiosity, was it polished and shiny as they are in your pictures? Or were they dull and hence ignored by the relatives?

I spent a few hours sorting and bagging those buttons last night. Here are some pics. Some of these are little works of art.

That peacock chair cushion looks fabulous.

I had dyed red rabbit fur earmuffs and a hand muff as a child. Loved them.

Lucite. Nothing tested positive for bakelite, but some of the buttons may be coated. The four brown ones and the horn are my favorites. I spent all day yesterday sorting and bagging. I have to seal the zip lock bags well and price. One more sort to do- huge pile of MOP buttons. I will take pics of some more of my favorites soon.

I am not venturing out in the heat if I don't have to, hung wash on the line the other day and went into afib. I had an eye doctor appointment today, so I hit a thrift. Earrings were $3 each, tigers eye have 14k posts, seem to be unmarked 14k. Back in the day, sometimes they would only hallmark the posts. Pearls were $6 each, double strand 20", torsade 18". Base metal clasps.

Thanks...the manager of the store must be on vacation for the pearls to slip by.

They used to make costume earrings with 14k posts. Then they did gold-filled.

Same here! Even if the fronts are no good, you can double up on metal weight.
