More generally, it means he is endowed by Apollo with the gift of poetry. (which was inseparable from music in Apollo's day.)

    Here's some recent 'smalls':

In a $10 bag of otherwise silver plate utensils were these three. I don't (yet!) have a scale so I don't know what they're worth, but probably more than $10?

This is a signed Acoma Pueblo turtle, tho not old:

This is my first-ever tintype. Condition issues, of course. Tomorrow's Halloween: these people are ghosts.

And, best of the lot in my opinion, a 5" bowl, unsigned, but with both the shape and designs of San Ildefonso.

Your 2 Alvin items appear to be the Francis I pattern. Used to be be very collectible, but I have not checked out sold listings in years.

Very interesting photo. I wonder why her hands, woman on left, are posed like that.

Yes, interesting. And both clearly wearing corsets, right? The one on the right looks... I dunno... seriously intense?

I was initially thinking, start a 'scrap pile' to sell to a shop, as I've seen other people here do. Do you think they should instead go into my 'Someday when I get on eBay' pile?

Suspect it was the convention in that time & place for what a lady did with her unoccupied hands.

I'm guessing neither was an adult yet. The one with her hands in her lap looks about 14/15 and the standing girl doesn't look much older for all the dark clothing. She couldn't move when the picture was taken, and her hands had to go somewhere.

The photo is delightfully creepy. And as always, you find the best pottery pieces!

Finally got the (blurry) pix uploaded from the estate sale. The 14k bits are in my purse, awaiting the scrapper. I did try to get a better picture of the belt, but this is what I get when my camera's batteries need recharging. It doesn't always tell me. The belt is about 5.5 avoirdupois ounces of .800 silver, the green heart is Connemara marble from Honora. There's another pearl necklace and some random sterling bits. One set of cufflinks may be bakelite; I haven't checked. The Aztec calendar thing isn't silver; I'm not even sure it's brass. The copper set however is mint condition Matisse. (not going anywhere.) The passionflower earrings are however signed Ciner and have Ciner circles, so "cined" twice.

I love Matisse. Gorgeous. I wore a lot of copper jewelry with my red hair before I went white.

Story time. There was a women's club having a sale a few towns over, no great shakes. I saw another club 23 miles from there advertising a jewelry sale, said "Wht the heck," drove over....started at 10 am, I got there 1:15 pm. I wish I had gotten there when they opened. Prices were shockingly low. Plate of costume, white earrings are Weiss. Pink brooch may be D and E, it was $3. All $2-$3.

Bracelets...big sterling cuff was $10, as was the thin Monarch GF bangle. Sapphire czs are pronged in, costume. Thicker gold bangle marked JS in a shield, 25 microns rolled gold, $3.

    All earrings are sterling.

Plate of sterling. Earrings at the top are Japanese silver rock crystal. Pearl ring up top has pearls that move around purposely under the main pearl. Beau sterling seahorse, Jewelart grapes, pearls and garnet pendant. There was a joolie who got there the same time as me and totally blocked the necklace display. I had to amuse myself with what you see. Monday everything is half-priced, and they are putting out Christmas jewelry that day. They said all jewelry is donated, and they have sales once a month. I am going back Monday. They are 40 miles away.

This ring is a mystery. Stone tests as aquamarine, no markings, and someone filed the side...cleans up with a Sunshine cloth. $2.
