Ixnay on letting local antique "specialists" in on the secret!

 

I bought the last one in an antique mall, the one where the owner changed the price on my dragon ring and loupes everything I buy. This was in a small plastic zip lock, big label, he didn't loupe it.

 

I'm excited! Found my first piece of Fulper pottery ever last night for the paltry sum of $6.00! I just asked for Worthpoint help since there are none of that shape on ebay at all.

Had to drive to Cherry Hill for a doctor's appointment, so I hit two antique malls on the way. Second one, nada mucho, first one was good. The owner wasn't there, so one dealer, who obviously is not a jewelry expert, sold me the following for $40 cash.
Open-back blue rhinestones, unsigned.

From another booth there, $8 30" graduated sliced black coral strand. From research, this appears to not be the more valuable Hawaiian black coral, but an octocoral found closer to the surface in Gulf waters. You can't harvest it anymore.

Miscellaneous...the FW pearls have sterling posts, hematite drop earrings, the crescent moon 13 necklace appears to be vintage. That charm is being reproduced.

Yeah, I finally bought it...it was sitting around for a month. I didn't think it was worth anything because it wasn't Hawaiian black coral....I believe this strand to be older from the time you could harvest it. She has a necklace that may or may not be polished nugget red coral, could be plastic, wants $25....I will examine it more closely next time. This octocoral is made into jewelry only when it washes up on beaches now. The red coral necklace is very light but you can't feel the imperfections, everything is smooth.

 

Marlo-As a quick aside (sorry to all 4 the interruption),it's quite wonderful that S. Jersey still has the 'Pine Barrens',all those trees have survived 500 to 8000 yrs of colonial & first nations occupation (or were they a WPA replant ?).
PS-Black Coral,Our Jewelry aficionados are darned astute scholars,akin to the Coin & Stamp Collectors I've met.
PSS- Speaking of rare minerals,the Smithsonian emailed Us re a meteorite exhibition they're mounting.
One of the largest meteorite specimens ever found was discovered an hour or so from where We live -The Willamette Meteorite.
The Clackamas Chinook people called it Tomanowos. Naturally the Federal Gov 'confiscated' it-13,000 or so years after the First Nations people most likely found it.

 

At least no one sold it; stuff in the Smithsonian essentially belongs to everybody.

As for the "red coral", I'd be suspicious. The name Leo Glass rings some bells, but only dimly.

Thank you. From my research, the hallmark on this piece was used from when they opened in the 20s to the very early 40s. Definitely retro, my favorite period for jewelry.

 

Yup, for $8, I can afford breakage. Not going to for $25. Although.....the barrel clasp on it sure shines like 14k
