Picked this large Theophilus Brouwer Arts & Crafts flame vase for $3.99, been hunting for a piece for decades. Horrible photos I know, bad lighting, looks like damage but it’s not got any chips or other damage.

It’s a rare piece, the color is really rare although collectors prefer the more common orange flame pieces, the larger size is also scarce. It has the earliest mark which is the whale bone that hung above the entrance to his studio and the M is for Middle Lane Pottery, the name of his studio.
Brouwer built a castle as a family home and was a painter, sculptor and ceramicist. His sculptures can be found up and down the east coast.

Great info and AMAZING find. Lovely that you always searched for one and finally the search is over! Like cxgirl I had to look it up, too. The first two matches were in NY museums. Wow.

I would have grabbed that, too. It has a wonderful look.

Interesting find today for $4.99, a cigarette box with a bunch of signatures of employees of the Wall Rope Works. I guess a retirement or service gift. Dates between 1947-56 with the Louis deBian Moore “M” mark.
