Was off today and made my happy way to two estate sales. Made off with some interesting knick knacks + some items I’ve picked online:

8887B3B0-8E62-4FA6-8DA9-A3C4FE6508B1.jpeg The top copy is from 1944, all pages appear to be present. Looking forward to reading this story as I’ve never heard of “A girl of the limberlost”. The bottom one has no date but I’m very familiar with the story and look forward to sniffing the pages like a weirdo. :)

    1249088E-2004-4D7C-AB12-342B2E1DB74E.jpeg Enamel and sterling bracelet

C42EE813-EFC5-4669-B767-83ED3958E338.jpeg Sterling necklace. The black enamel needed a tiny repair but I couldn’t pass up the style.

4B52CD8F-B61C-4252-9FF6-76F647102545.jpeg Definitely a new style with Larimar in sterling

CF24AC7C-0D6B-4FA1-ADD3-DCEC9FB0E3A9.jpeg This statement bib in sterling. No idea if these are a stone or paste but eye catching just the same.

Oh, I LOVE "A Girl of the Limberlost", now I'll have to dig out my copy & read it again (for probably the 6th time). I hope you enjoy it! :D

It never ceases to amaze me the fond memories that pop up while reading on these forums. A girl of the Limberlost was a much better book than her earlier one called "Freckles", but if you like Limberlost you could certainly give it a try too.

@BMRT ....i find the lack of symmetry somewhat disconcerting....are you seeing repairs on the underside??

Oddly enough? No. Lots of little rings. It’s not symmetrical in many areas not just the tear shaped random gem. 68A7F4B8-53DB-4CCF-8E78-C32B309CAB68.jpeg

    @popsycat
    The red was probably Maroon.
My brother had the maroon and I had the green.

My dad and I went to a friend and old neighbours funeral last year, my Dad had known him for over 55 years.
He was a Royal Marines Commando during WWII but he never told anyone.

My dad served from 1939 throughout WWII in the Royal Navy but conversation about the war never came up

Must have been a thing way back when. My dads father served in WW1 and until a few years ago no one ever knew ! I found it on a genealogy search . My aunts swore I was wrong, till I printed out the record of his enlistment showing his name, address and where his mother had to sign for him as he was 17 ! I also found several marriage licenses throughout the west under his name, but no divorces ! I didnt tell my aunts that part.

Most of those guys did not talk about their experiences.

It was probably a good idea to keep that part to yourself. ;):p:p:happy::happy:

Still , there are things it would have been nice to know...
God bless my father...his stories were all from here...and he only mentioned that he was a private...
Only my digging showed him to be a sapper...and then after his passing I found a photo of him , and on the back he wrote...This was taken when I was only a Corporal. !!
It just seemed unfair that I was shut out of that part of his life.

My Dad always talks of the war,he just did not talk about it with this particular neighbour for some reason.

He quite enjoyed himself I think as a young man, he travelled to the US, Canada, Azores, France, Germany, Netherlands , most of the time he was in the Atlantic Ocean.

He did see some bad things but I think he found it exciting.

He did his bit and killed a few but he also rescued a few too and captured a U-Boat.

He was reminiscing the other week when he was lying in his hospital bed about when it was a particularly warm day just off the coast of North Africa and all the crew on deck were bare chested and throwing Jelly Fish at each other.

Happy days until the skipper put an end to it.

(LOL) Typical kids ... with the addition of being shot at. Guys back then were sometimes told not to talk about what they were doing during the War. A friend of mine, who died of old age, said he'd been in uniform but I didn't find out he'd been an Army Intelligence officer until reading his obituary. He must have been handling Classified or higher information and couldn't talk about it, and later was just in the habit.

My dad was EOD during the Korean war, but never shipped out. He never said much about the things he handled, except the times he was cleaning up after someone else's whoopsie. (Like dropping a bomb onto a reviewing stand that fortunately didn't go off. Wrong fuse.)

Probably not worth much, just interesting. Manufactured in Hollywood California. The design patent dates to 1939. sarreg 001.JPG sarreg 006.JPG
Virtually no info for the company on the googles.
