A relic outside a church or monastery is usually a tiny piece of cloth, said to be from a garment a saint wore. Some saints had HUGE wardrobes.:jawdrop:;)

Any, yes, but there is still the possibility of a looted church item. It was done during the communist times, especially in the beginning, i.e. in Russia around 1920s, in C&EE around 1950s. I remember how the church in my Grandma's village was looted (late 1970s) although by that time there was nothing really valuable there. Where the valuable things were (old icons, silver pieces for the service), nobody knew.

This pendant is one of many. I also have one, but it doesn't open. They were worn by regular country people, but their descendants don't appreciate them, so they are sold. I got mine from a seller in Austria.
Churches had bigger and better made items.
Someone will find it while digging a new garden or vegetable patch.;) Metal items (any metal) that were hidden here during WWII are still dug up regularly. The Germans needed any metal, to use for arms. They even used Medieval Dutch church bells if they could lay their hands on them. So many people hid precious items in the ground and planted some pretty flowers on top.;)
Someone I used to know found a rather valuable African bronze in the 70s while digging in the garden of his new house. He found out that it was one of the items that was hidden during the war.

Agree, Any, church items do look different. Also the fact that a similar item was found online supports your opinion.

Your country was ravaged by the Nazis, mine - by the communists. I doubt the church stuff had been hidden from the Germans, I guess it had been just stolen later, when communists came. The items from the churches were taken allegedly for the museums but some of them disappeared on their way and were later sold at auctions abroad for hard currency. It was done by the state. The same was done with some of the ancient Thracian and Roman artefacts found here, and these are many here. What happened with the church in my Grandma's was a simple burglary but all valuable things had been taken away before that.
