Don't bother with the cameos. No great shakes there.

Worst I've seen are raised voices a couple of times. Those situations are easily solved when you have them start bidding up from the asking price. Everybody is usually sunshine and rainbows. :)

Raised voices yes, actual call-the-cops fights no. Gotten close once or twice though. Once in a while one of those with her voice raised has been me, but only when someone else did something blindingly offensive. That includes an estate runner, who is the only guy whose stuff I slammed to the table and vowed never to go back. If I'd known it was his sale I wouldn't have gone. Usually I'm the one helping other shoppers...and thanking them for buying stuff so I can't.

I complement buyers who beat me to the punch or had more money than me-even as I silently die w/ envy inside !
I've told Pickers abt 'low ball' dealers-'They'll try to ream you-fair warning'.
I knew buyers who'd routinely try to shaft pickers & on occasion I'd sneak out into the parking lot & offer them a better price.Obviously you want to be careful doing that-because you may want to buy from that greedy *%# someday.

I'm back! The sale was packed full of people and as expected most of the good stuff was snatched up by the first few people who made it in. I did manage to get a couple of things that were on our boardie wish list though. :)

I got the pretty necklace that @Any Jewelry liked. It's by Bergere and has little carvings on the beads.

Then there's the brooch and earring set that @RachelW, @Lucille.b, @evelyb30 all had on their wish list. It's by Alice Caviness.

And last, but certainly not least, the sparkly brooch by Weiss that I got for all of us to share!

I also picked up a smocking machine and a doll for my neighbor who wasn't able to go. Fun morning!

It's gold-filled, I know that wire, so the gold junkies didn't want it. That Weiss pin... Yowza!

They did a great job getting everything set up logistically for people to shop, but it was so full and it was wall to wall people. When I got there, I kept getting stopped by my regular customers who aren't used to seeing me shop at other sales. They just wanted to chit chat. Love them, but I was missing out on the jewels! :nailbiting: By the time I got upstairs almost all of the things that I went for were gone, but I'm still happy with what I brought home. The lady who checked out before me bought just about everything I had come for. Darn!

On the bright side, I just got a phone call from a lady that I bought some things from last week. She has more that I'm going to look at this afternoon. Crossing my fingers.....

Nothing worse than someone wanting to catch up and chat in the first critical moments of an estate sale. One hates to be rude....but.....

Love what you got. Alice Caviness is a good name :), and the other pieces are fabulous.

Ideally buying one on one with no distractions, so nice you got a call from a former seller---good luck today!

I know the feeling. Eyyyargh! OTOH a private sale may more than make up for it. The other buyer probably couldn't believe her luck.

Wanting to chat in the first crucial moments of an Estate Sale ? They sound like lovely folks, but perhaps more lonely than profit-motivated.

Most people here know to chat in line waiting to go in. Once the sale starts it's Game Time.

Oh how lovely! That necklace looks so nice now its the star of the show with proper lighting. Both those brooches are :eek: I just love the depth of colors in the Alice Caviness.

A sale like that sounds like such a fun experience if you don't mind some pushing!

I'm nuts, but I'm driving 1-3/4 hours to an estate sale tomorrow. I need to get up at 4:30 to get there early enough.

Hopefully not only can I get some of the pottery they show in the photos, but maybe there will be lots more costume jewelry than they show. Plus, hopefully, the prices are reasonable. Being way put of my area, I have no clue how this company prices things :zombie:
