    A hint on storage, since you've got some nice pieces: it is usually suggested that the swords or knives not be kept in the sheaths, but stored separately. Storage in the sheaths can contribute to rusting; why take chances....

    Ceremonial/decorative I think. The scene on both sides looks like Krishna playing the flute with a couple of gopis (milkmaids) flanking him.

    There is writing where the blade attaches to the haft.
