komokwa The Truth is out there...!

    Nice clean photo's !!!:hungry::happy:

    1st thought......
when finally ready for sale, it may be wise to split up the lot...into ethnographic, and say ...military.....to get the best visibility for items..!

  4. got a lot to go - I'm going to start calling these "item #" instead of "sword #" because I have some shields and other things

  5. great idea - after I know more about them I think that's a great idea - I have a few you'll see that look very similar

    Mandau Dayak Head Hunters Sword

The MANDAU (sometimes also called “Parang Ihlang”) is the traditional sword of the Dyak tribes of Borneo. It was primarily associated with the Head Hunting tradition of the Dyaks but also used as a general-purpose jungle knife. It has a slightly curved single edge blade with a convex / concave cross section, allowing efficient strikes only along a circular line from top down. It is a fearsome and very efficient weapon in the experienced hand, and was really used for head hunting.

    ( thank you to...Oriental Arms ! )

no change midstream....the thread could get out of hand....
use...sword....and 4 others state what they are or start a separate thread....
also...could u add..... old swords... to the title of this thread......so finding it in the future will be possible !!!!!
    Please

  8. okay will keep it going as sword with additional information. I would like to however keep this all in one thread as it is going to be the entire collection.

  9. Is there an estimate on the value of this? I see price range from 400-1200 but don't know where this one would fall, how can I find that out?

there is no one exact price...but an ethnographic weapons gallery.....or auction house could ball park a figure.....

here's why pricing is so tough and all over the place....,

    400.....everyone has one !!!!
    600.....nice quality...good sheath, nice dagger..
800.....high quality...good sheath, nice dagger....... OLDER....and the blade better be clean and fancy !
1000..... all the above......& PAPERS. !!!!! from the collector and the village he got it from........not just a story.....documents....signed 140 years ago !!!!!
1200...... everything above.....plus a photo of the Chief , holding the sword...in one hand and a severed head in the other !!!!!!!!
