I raided my hoard and eventually found just one oblong lever back deco ish style but the hole was too small to get the earring loop through:(.
They are quite thick and there would have been no dangle movement. I suppose I could add a small silver ring if I can find a couple but think that might look a bit odd.
I would like to know what the earring metal is though so will pay a jeweller to find out. Strange the neodymium magnet had no reaction but the little one with the acid kit did.

Screw threads posts would look good and be secure, I haven’t got any in my stash. I’ve got the piercings but I won’t be wearing them, I think they would look strange on me, bit too smart. I’ll see what’s about down the antique centres and post the result. Thanks.

Went to my usual jeweller today, he had a good look and thought there was a good chance they could be platinum. Went to another jeweller who thought they were costume. Think I’ll have to try a proper assay office to get it confirmed yes or no and hallmarked if yes. I’ve emailed Birmingham for price list info. Anyone here in U.K. done this please @Ownedbybear ? Thanks

Didn't he have a way to test them?
House, do you have acid to test for platinum? It usually comes with those acid test kits. Otherwise, buy a bottle, it is worth it imo.

He did use his platinum acid but still wasn’t sure, but said the work and look and heavyweight of them was in their favour. He said definitely not silver. I think the loops have been poorly soldered on which doesn’t help. He offered to send it off and if they were platinum he would give me £170. There’s a lot of work to do on them as some stones are missing but I thought if I could get them decent backs and properly hallmarked and if they are platinum then I’d get a lot more at auction so I said thanks and I would think about about it
I didn’t get platinum acid in my kit, just silver and two golds.
I’m happy to spend a bit of time on these to find out for sure.
The man in the other shop didn’t seem as experienced and he didn’t do any testing.

Very good. If you're not in a hurry to sell, that is best.

    What an interesting thread!

I occasionally re-purpose pieces of loose jewelry to make dangle pierced earrings and I could see that these were going to be a problem to just add earwires to the small fixed top loops. It seems like a tiny loop compared to the size/weight of the main pieces -- I had myself wondering if these were clip-ons and that loop was actually at the bottom holding a tiny dangle or something?? But going back to photos couldn't see how that would work either.

Finger's majorly crossed for the best result.

    Please keep us posted Houseful.

Will do. As you say the loops are tiny for heavy earrings, they worry me as it’s possible they are not the same metal as the main body of the earrings which might scupper hallmarking.
