Not at home right now, but will run through some books and catalogs later. As Bakersgma suggests, the lid is definitely not original, and there's a good possibility that it's a complete marriage, the frame and tongs look older (circa 1880s), though a bit overcleaned, they may be mismatched, but often the same tongs were used with various castor frames - will leave the glass those with more knowledge...

I do not know if each castor had its own coordinated tongs or if maker/assembler used whatever was handy like some cruet stoppers. These tongs just do not feel right to me.

I don't much care for them together either, but 19th century silverplate manufacturers did pair the same tongs with different frames, they also used various elements in different combinations when creating 'Aesthetic' pieces, often resulting in somewhat incongruous design...

I got it because I liked the blue jar. Even if its not all original I don't believe the jar itself is newer.

The frame is Pairpoint, the clip below is from an 1896 retailer's catalog, but it's identical to the one shown in Pairpoint's 1894 catalog, noted in both places as 'Triple Plated'. The Pairpoint catalog shows 4 different tong designs rotated among several pickle casters (the 1886 Meriden catalog also shows only 4 different tongs).

The tongs are Tufts, the clip below is from an 1898 Tufts catalog, these were being phased out in the 1890s, 19 are shown in the 1896 Tufts catalog, only 4 in 1899 - the same tongs were shown with all of the Tufts pickle casters.

Thank you do much. So the frame and tongs are early which is good news. Now I need to figure out if the blue daisy and button jar is real eapg or newer. There are no marks but the glass is very sharp. Any suggestions

no suggestions here, but from the catalog pics....yours does not look correct for the period.

Yep. The jar is not matching the frame. I will take the jar somewhere to have it looked at and see what time period its from. The reproductions of the EAPG are very smooth. Mine is very sharp. Thanks
