Either the jardiniere could set down into it, or it could set on a tray at the top.

Now I'm not saying it's a stool........only that the brass end caps may have supported a leather triangle that's missing.....

    Hi Komo,
At 5ft tall I do NOT want to run into the person that would use this as a stool.:wideyed::wideyed::wideyed::wideyed:

Sure, no problem. It’s a tripod. :yuck: Beyond that. I think it’s old.

Know something. I’m not sure I'm right. I originally thought maybe a surveyor’s. I’ve been looking at hundreds/thousands of tripods. But I began to realize this one doesn’t look like any type of tripod I've seen.

The legs don’t go all the way up to the top. To a whatever, base, holder, platform. They crisscross about 2/3rds of the way. And the whatchamacallits there with the hooks on them have no logical use - on a tripod. Also, what's the round things on top supposed to hold? Except for Komo's super star basketball player friend?

There are hooks and a chain as shown to add extra strength. There are also hooks on the bottom for another chain. Or is that the top??

There's one on Etsy made with tree limbs for legs. But it's only $17.95

On another site, someone says this is a mid-century coat rack.

Possible, but not probable. Maybe when Mike gets back from work he will have given it a good look-over and come up with other thoughts.

What do you think about the odd "top" and midsection? What are/were intended to go there/use there?

    I'm with plant stand.
Brass pot would sit IN the top.
    The hooks aren't original.

    ...IMHO

maybe the pot would rest on a plate held by straps attached to the metal tips.?

I would really be super happy if someone can find the right answer. So these comments are only to - maybe - help her/him get there.

If to hold such as a pot, why so geometrically askew? I'll say not a shot at artistry. Skeezix thinks the hooks aren't original. Which makes a lot of sense if it is a plant holder. But then why did someone put those on? To add or change possible uses?
In any case it's still not symmetrical - why?
I tend to think the junction of those two off kilter pieces are important and the only path to discover it's intended use.

WOW. Only a real PITA could write something like -

SO THERE!!!!!! Even better may have been "tend to believe .................... are integral.............path to nirvana. :vomit: :rage: :dead:

Usual is bad enough, worse when I try to type and talk to my health adviser on phone at same time.
