Yes similar form but that QA box is clearly English, if you notice the butterfly hinges and lock plate on front. I am not aware of any english hinges that look like mine, not saying it couldn't be, just saying i haven't seen any.

From what I can guess, Scandinavian maybe Norway. I guess you know better if that makes sense for oak.

Hmmm, never considered Scandinavian but that is possible. Those hinges are heavy & riveted, unusual for such a small box.
Yeah well, i'd say box is late 18th C, the hardware kinda attest to that, the question is, who built it?

    Lovely box, James.:)
I won't tell the Celtic Austrians and Swiss that you think of them as Germanic.:playful:
The Dutch are supposed to be Germanic, but since over 90% of the Dutch are of foreign descent, I am not so sure.

I have never seen a Dutch writing slope. The ones we get here are all English.
And you do that by showing an auction site called EEK?:hilarious:
Yes, it is a Norwegian site, and the box is painted in a traditional Norwegian way called 'rosemåling'.:)
    James, the Norwegians are Germanic!:D

Hmmm, so you are saying with all that, the box is likely Norwegian?

I have no idea, but if there is a convincing similarity between your beauty and the Norwegian rosemåling box, I wouldn't argue with that.:D

Bunch of dang foreigners, they have no idea who they are! Netherlanders/ Dutch people speak a "west Germanic Language" correct? CASE CLOSED! GERMAN!:singing::p

I think the box is Scandinavian though, I'd say INH stumbled upon it, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn now & then, correct?. :hilarious: J/K INH!
A box i found online with similar hinges & script

Period Tabletop Box, Bible Box, Original Red Paint, Strap Hinges, Molded
    Likely Northern European, 18th Century
    Hard pine

My thought would be Scandinavian as well. Have handles a lot of Scandinavian immigrant trunks with similar hinges.
