More than rumours, I think he got done for it. Yes, they were the Fleabay ones. And then there was the nutter who kept morphing. Antiquarianmadness was one of his nyms. The arrow head one was argentosilver.

Do we talk Brasso now? ;)

antiquarianmadness is now sonomabarn67 he is still on there giving his free appraisals, LOL what a plank.

He threatened to sue me about 10 times.
Oh and his buddy Highly the art dealer, he came here using two ID's and pretended to be French.
Little did he know his IP went straight to his desk in the office he had in the Empire State building:hilarious:

I really hope that all of the auctioneers go back to having on-site auctions after the pandemic is over. Having them post everything on HiBid.com and do everything online takes a lot of the fun out of auctions. There is something about traveling to the sale, and digging through piles of "junk", and bidding in person.

One of our local auctioneers is really singing the praises of the online platforms since he can delegate everything to his staff and not have to lift a finger himself.

the day will come when it's safe to go back into the sale room......
but....that costs money to rent a space and staff it ......so I see the auction house cut rising...& still the auction will also be on line , so you'll be bidding against more folks than ever....... IMO.

Even the estate sales have gone to auction formats. One company is pre-selling furniture items. Not cheap, but cheaper than retail. That format actually makes sense, since you have to inspect some smalls with a fine-toothed comb. The big stuff in this company's sales tends to be immaculate.

Here too Ruth. Many have gone to the auction format or blended on site with an auction. Personally since they have no descriptions and I can't hold it before paying, I won't be doing this.

Me either, but this house is in the high-rent district; you never know what dumb people with money will buy . They must have just put the jewelry pix up and I can't see anything to get excited about. Then again this company doesn't know jewelry and often doesn't realize what they've got. They had $20 on a sterling necklace (I nabbed and flipped for $80 locally) and $10 on a 14k one!

Interestingly, the local auctions I sell at have literally exploded in demand and prices. I've sold more and for way more lately. And a dealer who I pick for, often, is doing really well. It's unpredictable, but the weird and wonderful seems to do well. I think people who are still employed are desperate to buuy Stuff.

I heard from someone that the auction house I was working at is going to resume in person in January. I have not talked to them so I do not know if this is true.

This information was also told to me approximately a month & a half ago so it may be different by now since the numbers have exploded here like everywhere else.

I have told several people that I will wait to see what their policies will be. If they are not going to require a mask at all times Peggy will not be joining the group.

I can't believe he would even consider it since he is 80, is a cancer survivor, has a history of respiratory issues & has hypertension.

I miss going to the auction every Friday & seeing everyone but not enough to risk my own health.

We just agreed tonight that we are not going to have our granddaughter come down from Virginia for Christmas because we just think it would be too big of a risk.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Yes, he has had an auction business for 10 years now. His website says they started in 2011. He got his auctioneer's license back around that time. Here's a link to his business website.

(I haven't been following this discussion lately, thus the late notice.)

I miss his participation... He has been mentioned in the thread called something like "where the heck is..." also. If you have any magical way to check on his whereabouts... feel free!

He's not posted on the several sites I knew he frequented, he's not bought or sold anything on eBay.
I know his real name and there is nothing in his local press.
