Many of us have been doing this a long time. We need to share and pass on what we have learned, to others who can use what we have learned and also pass it on.

So be sure to share what you learn with your daughters. Ask them to hold off reconstructing any jewelry until they know what they have.
The broken, and one earrings are better suited for taking apart and making their own creations.

At 24 and 29 they are probably responsible, but they may have no inkling as to the value of some of the things, thinking "grandma's costume" -- a couple of bucks.

And plenty of blingy costume has minimal value, perhaps that's all there was, but since a few of the pieces in the "left overs" were better, would take special note of anything signed or marked. Look up "Schreiner Ruffle pin" closed auctions on Ebay and maybe show them the auction.

    Sounds fun for everyone! :)

There are brooch converters. They have tubes which you slip over the pin, and a bail to hang on a chain.

Kevin, if they want to wear the brooches as pendants, you can buy little adaptors on Ebay to safely do that. You put the pin through a little tube which has a bale (loop) on the end.

    Thank you.
These are likely the ones that AJ was referring to. I will get on ebay and order some up for the girls to insure that they don't modify the ones they have.

Yep - the first rule is not to mess with anything not already damaged. As far as the blingy necklaces go, tell them to look up Juliana Easter Egg necklaces and keep smelling salts handy when they look at the price tags! They should technically be listed as D&E, but never are these days. Some vintage colored rhinestones go for SILLY money...which I more than happy to take when offered. White rhinestones tend to sell for lower amounts.

But... do help them go over all the stuff for marks. Show us some of the unmarked bling too. I still remember a Russian demantoid garnet parure from the Antiques Road show. No marks whatever as I recall, so it was sold as costume. I want to buy costume like that too!
