Yes, indeed, I also like this aspect about this cameo, it’s like a relief sculpture.
I have attached few photos to emphasise this striations I’ve mentioned, it looks as though a different tool was used like a comb that gave this parallel lines effect.
I hope they can be seen, this is very different carving than any other I have.
Is this a different style carving or does it have a name ?
    Thank you.
    Kind regards,
    Simona

:) Cheers to Lazarus! Sounds fun.
My surname resembles Bacchus name, maybe that’s why.
I occasionally have Bacchus drink, but never been Lazarus :)
During university years I had 3 jobs, in order to help me pay the fees as international student, no time to party, but now it’s the best time of my life, I enjoy life with my children.
    Xx

I just see chisel marks that haven't been completely smoothed out. She has one of the fine brown lines I referred to in my last message in her chin area.

I see the chisel marks too, and finally I see the fine brown line in her chin-cheek area, thank you Bronwen.

The "lines" in seller's original photo appear to be a problem with seller's camera. The ones on the back look much like celluloid. If I were the buyer, I would look at seller's other auctions to see if this problem existed elsewhere in photos..

I agree, not a very good buy this one either, but I would still like to keep it, I am thinking to ask the seller to drop the price, otherwise I will just return it.
@Bronwen I had a closer look at the signature, does AL and AF bring any bells?
    Thank you

No, I'm afraid not. Starting late in the 19th century there gets to be very little documentation of cameo cutters. Even before that there is little or no documentation of artisans who never moved on to hardstone from shell.

Excited because in an upcoming auction house auction I was able to make out what they called an indecipherable signature as that of Teresa Talani, one of the few noted female gem engravers. Out of my reach but was able to point it out to 2 people who will take a more serious interest.
