thanks for explaining all this Mr Nate, very educational:)
the mug and the spoons were why I would have paid the $40.00, can't wait to see what the marks reveal:)

Well...the moment of truth is here folks! And thank you all for your comments and observations. This game was really fun for me and hopefully for you too. So...on to the news:

    EVERYTHING WAS PLATED!!!!

Well, everything except for the mug ;)
But seriously, I was really happy to have guessed this one correctly. I was hopeful a few other items would turn out silver, but also happy to see my "nose" led me to the right item. Admittedly, this little cup has seen better days, but I'm just happy to have it in my collection and perhaps take a few sips out of an old silver cup.

We also have a "surprise guest" in this post, because I got another item in the mail I wasn't sure would be real (took another gamble). I got this second item in similar fashion. Not exactly a steal at $30 total, but happy to have gotten it correct.

So I think we are looking at a piece from London, sterling silver, made in 1756 (264 years old?!?!) I haven't figured out the maker yet...but I'm just happy!! I also had a random question for anyone who is knowledgeable...anyone tried to repair a piece like this on their own? Or anyone know where to get started to try something like this on their own?

    Bingo. Lovely little tankard.
Someone on the forum used to get dents out of silver using wooden implements, pretty good job too but I can’t remember who. Maybe it was Shangas, hopefully someone else here remembers.

That Kiddish cup may be a lot better than scrap. Looks to be Italian-made. Some of those fetch a premium. As for the tankard, I wouldn't mess with it; at this point the dents are supposed to be there.

    I use a wooden pestle.
Don't know that I have ever posted that though.
You have to be careful that you don't push too hard.

I don't think I would do it to this though.

I'm pretty sure it was Shangas who did that.
