    Can't judge English furniture by what was happening here in the US. There is no way something like that was being made here in the 50s. In England, it was quite common.

    The Brits took even longer to get tooled back up for civilian production than we did, if memory serves. I can see it being made new in the UK a few years after we would have discontinued the design.

    We weren’t allowed to make it for the domestic market, it had to be for export. Once those controls were relaxed, design exploded. Festival of Britain, atomic, modernism the lot. People like Robin Day. And then the sixties happened and we went mad bonkers and led the world.
