The entwined beasties are Saxon. They are worms, another name for dragons, which of course, St George slew. I've seen ancient jewellery and metalwork decorated like that.

The shield is indeed for St George, but he was the patron saint of a great many countries. Dipped flags are typical of our heraldic crests.

English, I'd say. Mid to late 19th C with all that fashion for Arthurian legend and stuff. Also a time when we pinched furniture forms from all over. The leather is very William Morris, too.

But the dragon(?) - They look like a hybrid to me of pelican head, otter body & I don't know what tail!.....

You have to get you head around the idea that there are Dragons of all manner of depiction out there....;):):)
    & maybe you've not seen them all..:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I don't know much about furniture but the designs in the wood scream 'England' to me .. Joy.

I agree, I am 95% sure we can call this British Arts&Crafts. The remaining 5% is the possibility of another Northwestern European country.

Yes. I remember Australia had some Arts&Crafts furniture makers. But I doubt those pieces ever made it out of the region.

Not a clue. It's a corner chair or roundabout chair which were popular in england & america in the 18th century during the queen anne & chippendale period, this chair isn't period.

OK, sounds about right to me!

It is absolutely categorically NOT British Arts and Crafts. Far too fancy for that and with none of the common motifs. Our A&C is gloriously simple, that was the whole poiint of it.

Yeah, i really don't think it matters much value wise when chair was made if out of period unless by a famous maker like this Bugatti piece
Here is a Carlo Bugatti corner chair C 1900
    bugatti corner.jpg

This is an American QA period corner chair, 1770 or so that went for a hideous number a couple years ago, tiger maple drives some folks insane. This is a nice period chair but not worth the 40K that someone paid

Yeah, i like him too, thing is it seems almost everybody was making these corner chairs around 1900 or so and unless someone like a Bugatti made it, revival chairs just don't have a lot of value.

Yep, is ancient. It was a favored symbol when America switched from pilgrim style joined furniture with shallow relief carving (which often had fleur de lis carvings) to painted furniture circa 1700.
Here is a C. 1700 chest i own which the Connecticut Historical Society (it was donated to their collection, purchased later by me) attributed to Connecticut but, i know better:happy:, this chest was built & painted in Hadley Mass. end of story!

And, let's not forget the somewhat famous Bird chest

And my bird chest where the birds decided to FLY AWAY! Ditto Fleur de Lis!
