    Yes. About what?
There are other comments above mine.
That is why there are two options to reply.
One to a comment directly, the other to just add to the post.
    See? :)

I am thinking the artist on this one was a friend or hobbyist. Is there a directory that someone can look up 19th century artist? The ones I found on google do not have a M E Weaver.

    There are two.
This is a common confusion because the 'buttons' are microscopic. :p
One is at the lower right of the comment and intended for that comment. The other is at the bottom of the page and for any comment not directed at a specific comment. :)

This is compounded when a flurry of response happens in a thread.

My question may be overlooked due to the flurry ;)

I think you're right. Very possibly a family friend. S/he had some training but, given shaky grasp of perspective, unlikely to have been professional.

What about "Mrs ME Weaver, art teacher in Dallas College" in 1903?

That would be fairly local for Spaulding, who lived in Salem.

Her first name was Mary, and her maiden name Whiteaker. She remarried two years later, to "William R. Carter ... a prosperous farmer of Yamhill county."

Her middle name was Etta, and she is sometimes recorded as "Maryetta"

We know from the marriage announcement that Mary Etta Weaver was living in Newberg sometime between 1903 and 1905; and Newberg is given as WL Spaulding's home town in this Michigan University publication:

Now that's what I am talking about. Wow great find ! I think this portrait has a cute little story when you add everything together :) Except the part about the head hiding buffalo lol Thank you guys and gals for all your help and super sleuthing. Not sure what to do with it yet but now I know its value. Is that frame a particular type or wood?
