    BTW, Scantic...
If I pronounce your name with a thick Mexican accent, it sounds like "Scantic Antics"!

    I agree, that's a t.

Back to the good Rev. Dr. Tyng.

Funny thing. When I first saw the name I thought "Wouldn't it be funny if the family were from Newburyport." Now, what you may not know, Scantic, is that I spent 10 years (mostly 1970's into the 80's) in Newburyport, MA. And one of the streets is Tyng Street.

Sure enough, Stephen H Tyng Sr was born there!

    Wow!!! That's crazy!

I purchased it in a lot right here in New England, so it makes perfect sense!
You know it's funny, I think I've had a Dr. Tyng's Insurance trade card at one point.

    Wish I still had it!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I was writing a reply, accidentally hit the wrong key, and *poof* it was gone!

Anyway, I think this second man is Gurdon Saltonstall Coit (1808-1869) who was a minister of the Episcopal church in Bridgeport before going elsewhere for a while. Here are some links:

Actually, Pleasant Bay Antiques was run by Steve Tyng for many years. He only recently retired. Wonder if he's a descendant.

Interesting thread! Good finds, Bake et al! Senior was quite a notable religious leader in his time as y'all know already.

Here's a monument to a Stephen H. tyng, Jr., possibly the son or grandson of the Stephen, Jr of the CVD. Seems this man was killed at sea by a collision of ships in 1918. He was a Marine. The steamer he was on was heading fir Savannah. Do note he sailed on the day he was married meaning he had no issue. There is info on his wife in the right column saying she never remarried of had children.

It appears this tall monument is in his mother's family (Kemp) plot:
