Digging up bits of Roman or later stuff is quite common. I unearth Roman tile sherds all the time, and I know detectorists with boxes and boxes of Saxon and other bits and bobs. As an aside, the Romans were the filthiest minded people around. Like I said, get it looked at.

Looks sort of indecent to me.....adam and eve maybe.
Too bad the photos are a bit blurry, or maybe that is all for the best.
Am I just imagining what the guy is doing in pic 3?

That's one I'd never be able to wear to church. Definitely get it checked; the only people I know who made bawdier stuff than the Romans are the Japanese.

Since it was found just off a path, and part of it was visible, lead me to think it could have been "yesterday".

The Tree of Knowledge wasn't an apple tree until Milton. The specie of tree isn't specified in the Bible. Before Milton, the most common choice was pomegranate.

If it is Adam and Eve and depicts the fall, and if it is Roman, then it would be a very important find indeed. A Judeo-Christian relic? From Roman Briton? With that imagery? Hubba hubba!

I don't think it's junk either, still think it wants checking properly. As to stuff sticking out, it's surprising how close to the surface Old Stuff can be.

    Hi,
When I was in Iran back in the early 60s, I found an iron spear head from 1200 to 550 BC in the sand next to where we stopped to have lunch. It was only an inch deep from the surface.

In the eBay one, the figures don't have as much dimension. I'd think that means either a copy or a later version when the mold had worn down? Or, since it's gold, could they have not filled the mold as deeply? I don't know much about casting, so don't know what makes the most sense.

It's not unusual for detectorists in England to find Roman coins and artifacts right on top of the ground, English hammered coins hundreds hundreds of years olde are also occasionally picked up off the surface.
