Note it has the same wide brass shoulder collar. Sorry, it hasn&#039;t been cleaned up.</p><p><br /></p><p>The base is a stepped hexagon iron base. Iron bases date usually from 1865-1880s. Per <i>Thuro&#039;s Oil Lamps, The Kerosene Era in North America</i>, p. 170, today &quot;iron-base lamps are not as popular as opaque glass-base or marble-base lamps .... [because] they are frequently rusty and in need of cleaning. The original finish on these bases was black, or a metallic gold, copper or bronze finish.&quot;</p><p><br /></p><p>Thuro&#039;s OL, in the &quot;Iron Stem-Base&quot; section, p. 172, has pictured 3 &quot;Frosted with Clear Bar&quot; font lamps with iron stem-bases. None of the bases is exactly like yours. Each of the&nbsp; &quot;Frosted with Clear Bar&quot; fonts are a different shape.
