Can anyone decipher this signature?

Student. Or, what I would call a Sunday painter.

 

Really? I feel like it might be by a regional artist myself.

 

If you want to take it any further, you will want to verify the title/location and the signature - weren't you going to take a picture of it unframed?

I think it's really nice - if it does turn out to read Westport and I lived near Lyme I'd at least check and see if I could connect it to the school. Both Laguna and Monterey beaches here in California are destination spots for well-heeled vacationers - there are tons of galleries representing tons of local artists, and plein air art represents at least 50% of it.

Not really knowing anything about Connecticut, and since we didn't see more images of the signature to verify that name or location I can't say it was painted in Westport, or had anything to do with Lyme.

I know you were hoping for a name, and the rest would follow, but you may have better luck working from the opposite end - What IS that word? location? the art culture in that area? and maybe then artist?

If I didn't have this painting, I'd never even have thought of Lyme - for sure plein air painting has been a big part of that community since at least 1900 and continues today.

It's possible you'll stumble on something more about it, you never know! In the meantime, enjoy it!

 

Just a note to Scout. You do have a typo last few posts. Not "Westport" It's WestBROOK, CT. Bordering Lyme and art school.
Big difference.
Median price of a home in Westbrook is $327,500. In Westport it is $1,266,500.
