Truly. The cutter was competent & could have made quite a nice piece, if only he had copied from a decent composition. No way to know if these are his own embellishments or what.

One of my favorite hobby horses, but instructive:

    (Another is underlit photos.)

Conch shell, not coral at all, but also, note the typo, fairly common. If you're searching for 'angel skin', don't forget to also look for 'angle skin'.

I should add the corollary: if you are looking for conch shell cameos, don't forget to check angel skin coral listings, although when seller believes piece is coral, it is likely to be overpriced.

At least is isn't EAGLE skin...;)

In French, if you search for CAMÉE, don't forget to seek too for CAMÉ (stoned by drug, lol) CAMEY, and even CAMAY as the soap bar:facepalm::hilarious::hilarious:

I should probably also be checking for things like 'antique canoe' under jewellery, for people who typed 'camoe' & auto correct 'helped' them out. No doubt eBay will suggest that what I really mean is 'camo' & then show me camouflage jackets, etc.

Well, on this day, it is showing me vintage canoe jewellery. A sterling & enamel pin:

I keep thinking I really need an organizing principle to keep my collection under control. Collecting only cameos of canoes would certainly limit it. Wouldn't be surprised if Amadeo makes one.

Yes, that led me straight to it. The misspelling was surely flagged by the editing program; they just didn't notice. It is competent at best, so not disappointed not to be able to bid.

When I want to post/send a link for an eBay listing, I often retype it in its simplest form, copying & pasting only the item number rather than the whole string. The fundamental form is like the one you just gave me, minus the title. So this would also get you there:
    http://www/ebay.com/itm/143175824668

You just have to make sure to get the item # right & make sure to type 'itm' & not 'item'.

Thanks for the hint! I'll try to remember, but no guarantees. :)

One of my favorite fairly common descriptions for cameos that are not set is 'unmounted lady'.

!!!!! Not good, not good at all. Each of the 8 large cameos is worth 1,000 GBP. Would love to have just this one:

No one loves watermelon tourmaline more than I do, but the outcomes for the two lots is alarming for a cameo collector.

I have only one that is something like those:

I've decided it's probably a good idea to add tags to some posts to make them easier to find if a topic comes up again & we want to refer back:

Sorry to post over here. But i am unable to make a new post in the introduction forum or upload pictures. Is there something that needs to be done at my end? Was waiting to upload the pictures from the Louvre but my account does not seem activated.
