Wow, very nice indeed. I'd like to see it when it's clean.

I take pictures usually as soon as we get home. Then my wife cleans them and puts them on display. I don't even know how she does it.

Thank you. I'll have to post a few photos. I think the ones I buy are shell. Though the color is a little different.

Even if the artist uses a dentist drill they still have to handle the drill. Ultrasonic cutting seems like cheating.

It also allows for mass production. A master engraver makes the original, which can then be copied ad infinitum.

All the ones you have shown us so far are shell.

And where is that, exactly? Asking for a friend. :D

Eastern Pennsylvania. We moved from Jersey in 2021.

I like to drive and we're both retired. We have something like 30 thrift stores in a 30 mile radius. Quite a few antique shops and 5 flea markets.

Thankfully our car is a hybrid and gets close to 70 mpg.

Sounds like picker heaven, although these days with the internet in everyone's pocket, not so easy to get a real score. Asking prices for cameos on eBay have long been bonkers. Your sellers must not be going by that.

Squared. I can't even six church sales in a year's time. That sounds like picker paradise.

When it comes to cameos, dealers and people in general don't put much thought into them. At flea markets, they'll throw them in with awful costume jewelry. It's great for us. I just feel bad that works of art are treated like gum ball prizes.

Just got these two today. The first is nice. The second is very nice.

We have so many loose cameos, I'm trying to talk my wife into making a frame for all of them.

The first one is a somewhat free-handed Raphael.

The lady is a bit of a hybrid. She is wearing a diadem & a strand of pearls like a goddess, but carries what appears to be a minimized thyrsus, symbol of a bacchante/maenad, a female follower of the wine god Bacchus/Dionysus.

Still, somebody had a pile to spend. I spent $30 at a tag sale this morning and had to think about it first. Bet the seller was doing the happy dance.

I've been catching up on the posts here, some lovely stuff!
I don't browse cameos much anymore since my knowledge/tastes now surpass my pocketbook.

But I had a quick look at ebay today and came across THIS:

So, of course, I googled Pascoli cameo and came across THIS:

So... do we think that the eBay Pascoli is a younger version?
The antiquecameos site believes the portrait cameo is of the Italian poet Giovanni Pascoli:

I've found no images of the poet with the full set of whiskers depicted in the cameos.
Instead, was there possibly a carver of the name Pascoli?

I saw that eBay listing and he is absolutely fabulous. Stunning workmanship for sure.

The two cameos sitters look similar, but have different ears... Perhaps same family? Although I assumed it was the carvers signature, especially since it is on the front. Neither photo matches imo.
