I'm not home, so can't get at my photo archives, but do have only the one photo with that signature. Let's see what 'nalfie' will do when the Graces are re-examined. They have their own site, CJ Antiques, but pix are usually same as on eBay.

I'm glad Con Ed got things sorted out here. It was going to complicate my day if they had not.

First thought is that it looks like the good Mouhe (which always looks like Mouhr to me), but not currently on my computer that has comparison sigs.

But are there enough squiggles for "ou"?

Will check back after I boot up the computer.

Hmmm, the M is completely different... and, of course, there's the underlining of the signature. :bored:

I'm wondering if the M is actually an M... I think there is a letter before the "M" and while I thought it was an initial, maybe it's the first letter of the surname.

Now that you've pointed that out, I see it.
I think it's going to remain a mystery, the siggie is just too difficult to decipher.
Thanks for trying to help!

The Jivster & I have seen this one, chattering about Schmoll off sides. Wish it weren't so expensive; it's some of the best work by him I've seen.

The quality of work is consistent with the 'good' Mouhe. (We've seen this name on some pieces that are top notch & others that are apprentice quality, written in what we think are 2 different hands.)

It is maddening. Actually looks a lot like the start of Michelini in his more expansive hand, except really doesn't seem to be any more signature past the pin, so too short, about the length of Mouhe.

Still mucking about with the mediocre pic, but I have hope that this one is solvable... two lines of text as far as I can tell right now.

My first impression was that it's probably Tignani with something below it. Now you've worked your magic on the pic, I'm even more inclined that way. If a piece was large enough, he put his whole address on it. Right below the name is usually either engraver/graveur/incisore (he was quite the polyglot) or Rome/Roma/Romano.

Pieces by him turn up more often in hardstone than in shell. Another shell piece:

This is a very large hardstone piece:

"A" is the piece for sale now, "B" is the first one in your most recent post.

    Little doubt left for me.

I have a thought about this piece, but it confuses matters.

What are your thoughts on this sig? What do you think it says?

Vaguely looks like it says Schmoll; just doesn't look like 'our' Schmoll wrote it. It's Gibson's Phaeton, & there is one from the Saulini workshop; pretty sure it doesn't say Saulini & definitely not written the way they did it.

I think it looks exactly like Schmoll.

    But definitely not 'our' Schmoll.
