There's one of those in Connecticut too, but nothing in the town was particularly old. Victorian maybe.
some had to be destroyed because the old population wanted to go back to their old houses. in those lakes in Germany where the English used their dam busters there's also old stuff hidden.
WOW! I'm not sure if was here but the last gentleman that was on that team just passed away. The aircraft he was with developed a fault and had to turn back.
The last pilot from the Dam Busters squadron has passed but there are crew still alive. I just recently went to a funeral of one of my neighbours, he was a rear gunner on the DB`s, I knew him as Geoff but his real name was Gerry. When they shouted Gerry on the plane everyone thought it was an enemy attack so they made him change to Geoff, LOL
Fid, Is this close to the Brenner Pass / Passo del Brennero ? I drove that route from Innsbruck into Italy on my way to Greece, via Brindisi. I avoided Switzerland as I wasn`t covered on my EU insurance.
nono, Davy, Northern Ireland isn't covered by insurance companies... LOL.. the Brenner is more to the east, the Reschenpass and the Vinschgau were mostly used by people that were either going to Lake Constance and then Germany. or even- lo and behold - to Switzerland
Nice photos, Fid! -- I haven't been able to keep up with the threads as much as I used to, and am glad to see this one.
