I think it is a walking stick head because A) the toads & frog would be upside down when a parasol was in use & B) a lady of the day would not be likely to want something so conspicuously a carved bone, while a gentleman would have enjoyed showing off the novelty to his friends.

Could be something like a chimpanzee femur:

ahhh....BUT...placed in the stand...the carvings would be right side up...

too thin for a walking stick...
and uncomfortable as the frog on top would dig into m'ladies palm !

The whole thing looks uncomfortable for use as a handle in either application. Swagger stick, maybe? It just doesn't seem like something most women of the time would have wanted to carry. But 'not most' is not the same as 'none', so...?

I'll stick with parasol handle..........for now...

but I once walked into a woman's home and she had a wall.....the whole wall....floor to ceiling...
    with nothing but frog items.

The amphibian climbing the side is a frog; the two on the end are toads.

Was once in a hospital CEO's office that had frogs all over the place. I said, Let me guess. You had two & someone decided you were collecting them & people have been giving them to you ever since. He said, No, I had one!

You're welcome. But not sure who would swagger with such a stick other than a character from Wind in the Willows. Toads rule! :)

Like that toad. I'll take it off your hands if price is ok. (And not a problem if it's human bone... Maybe I will need a hip bone replacement some day. ;))
The toad in China is associated with longevity and I need a boost! :)
