It may be a canal not a river.

 

Not a canal. Too wide. Super wide canals like the Kiel, the Panama and the Suez are only so because of their special uses. Also the waterwaterway fits the terrain, in general canals will contradic the terrain, for example by running along the side of a hill or across a plain with no other indications of a waterway.

Canals are built where natural waterways are not. Reading the writing on the back would probably give the answer, all it needs is a little image enhancement.

 

Still looks like Misue. Wish the guy had slightly better hand writing.

All his i's have very heavy dots over them and that one doesn't so maybe it's not an I.
