The point of his painting style was Approachable. You show others that it's not daunting, it's relaxing, it's creation you can feel productive and pride in. And maybe from there you pick up a Walter Foster book, or you take some classes, and maybe YOU take it further. There's a marketing strategy out there that says if you use the best artists to represent your art tutorials, people who have never picked up a pencil think "I could NEVER do that" and don't try. If you choose an artist who's more amateur, a person thinks "I COULD do that" and you've sold some art supplies... Which wasn't the beginning reason for his show, but became an end goal for his partners.
