I completely understand LucyLocket's feelings. Honestly I am very relalaxed that in my area it is almost impossible to find ivory. If it happened though, I would also not know what to do. I couldn't wear them knowing the background, maybe would try to find someone who would do it. Or just keep them as a reminder what we humans have done and should NOT do anymore. Difficult decision....

Although I'm not a fan of Harper he is technically right - William IV was King from 1830-1837 between George IV & Victoria.

Yup, we refer to those articles as William IV!

I've always counted him in with the Georges because he was the brother to one and the son/grandson etc to the rest of 'em, and unlike his niece he doesn't have any particular styles associated with his reign. Not that I know of anyway.

They're all related, in fact nearly all European royals are related, also in those days.

I was reading about that - all of the cousins marrying cousins because everybody's grandparents intermarried. The original Spanish crew inbred themselves out of existence, but from what I was reading the new crew jumped right back into the game.

It was all about power and politics, not about health or happiness.

That's the way I heard it. Also the way they worked it, the future was the future's problem. Never mind that the future would be their own children and grandchildren.

But how much is his info 'on target'?? I've got too many pan bone lamps....a couple pretty old, but a few newer-ish!!! And some 'pow' little carvings that I think I've posted here before, from the 1800's.........maybe I should just check with an auction house or two that seems to sell some of this stuff......

Aqui - what's a "pan bone lamp"? I'm unfamiliar and googling just leads to pan-seared lamb chops. Looked delicious but not too enlightening.

He does have a rather nice little pub in Brighton (UK) named after him though! Spent a very pleasant couple of hours there a few days ago. 20230628_112310.jpg 20230628_112332.jpg

Makes sense that it would be in Brighton. IIRC he and his brothers did a lot of partying in the vicinity.

@evelyb30, 'pan bone' is still whale bone as I understand it (I'll take a couple of images shortly.....SO SORRY I never caught your question until right NOW!), just a wider and flatter, and somewhat more porous part of bone.........saved the page, and WILL be back!!!:):)

OK @evelyb30, I'm only posting 3, but you'll get the idea....the first one you'll see is one of two that my parents had from I don't know HOW LONG AGO.....I just remember them ALWAYS being in our houses, but the last two they got while they were living at Cape Cod in the eighties and early nineties..........don't ask me WHICH parts of the whale.....maybe jaw??....but it's easy to see the difference with the old and newer bone... Here they are.....
