    I also thought a fold-over clasp would be more likely.

    If it weren't for that extra curved piece holding the clasp in place, I would have thought it was just thrown on. but that extra piece looks permanent, right?

    I had to look really hard to see what you meant by the 'extra piece'. You have won me over. That piece keeps the ring attached & held in position. Think it's not the best design in the world, but agree it looks original. The wear on the ring where it chafes against the other end is further evidence.

    Wear it & enjoy it!

    It’s 7 and three quarter inches long which includes the ring closure. This fastening could be an important feature in determining the maker, I’ll be on the lookout. Thanks.
