   They're called bell mortars...& like member Shangas....I'm still coming down on the side of lath turned brass.....but....I don't have it in my hand !!

   Shangas Underage Antiques Collector and Historian

   They ARE lathe-turned brass. You can tell by the marks on them. The pin-holes where they were screwed onto the mandril, the marks where they were carved.
