>large shell on the floor lower right.< I hadn't noticed the shell. I can remember back in the 1940s of several homes of my grandparents friends - those of their age group, having a big conch shell laying around. I always thought it was a strange item for a living room because it never fitted in with the furnishings' scheme; however, I thought the furnishings always looked way to busy. >Also, the drapery on Mom's picture would have been black if she recently died.< Agree on the color. If it had been like a year the color of the cloth could have progressed to white. The Victorian's did use white decorations, etc. at some funerals especial those for infants and children. Q. Vic requested a white funeral. "She had also wanted a white funeral and so the gun carriage was pulled by eight white horses." The "color of cloth lightened as mourning went on, to grey, mauve and white." >I say it's just a family group of a trio of sisters. Mom and Dad (photos in back)< Probably, though I think the woman in the chair is quite a bit older than the other 2. I think it is mother and 2 daughters. The large pic of the woman looks very much like the woman seated. They could be one and the same though the pic may be her at a younger age without so much facial aging. Hmmmm.... before the wear, tear and worrying of children! --- Susan
