Following is a 2 piece 1930s Dutch bookcase library cabinet. It is a combination of bookselves with cabinet doors on each side. It has similar hardware. The doors are carved panels, not with the same images as this one. It measures 6' high and 7' wide. Wonder if the OP's piece was original meant to be something like it, but the bottom part got lost resulting in the top half being place on these legs. The carvings, etc... on this piece don't seem to be of the same quality or age as the following.

Well for a so called "marriage", I find the color and grain of the wood, as well as the inside of the drawers and the inside back of the cabinet to be an awfully good match. The hardware was even a good match.

Since the pieces match so well, and considering how awful much of the 70s designs were, I can see these two pieces as having come from the same suite of furniture.

Is the lower piece the correct height for a coffee table?

German or Dutch shrunk (or shrank). Maybe 50s or so.
