Some minerals do not flouresce with a standard, cheap, blacklight.
The other wavelength is quite expensive.
Check the Franklin Mine's website to learn more. :)

Yes it's not a original lump of amber. They added water drops inside to make it look old.

    Not water, but linseed oil.

The side profile looks to have an inclusion within it so the possibility it is genuine is higher.
It also looks as the back has been subjected to heat at some stage as the crazing and bumps are not something I have seen before in Amber jewellery, (although I am a self confessed novice in this area).
Best of luck on the research :)

Lucille could I please ask where you can find a black tourch on the internet? I am in Australia and unfortunately Amazon is to expensive to send over items to here and I am relucant to purchase from china directly as the quality is often extremely poor.
    TIA Gen :)

I'll jump in and offer that I'd almost bet that most are from China but try the Franklin Mine store in USA, state of New Jersey. They should have good products.
Be sure to look at the minerals that come from that mine too.
Not all minerals will fluoresce with a cheap black light.
There is another wavelength that is more expensive. Depends upon what you need. :)

Gen belli, this is absolutely typical of reconstituted amber - both that bumpy back and the "inclusions". It's little bits pressed together with linseed oil and moulded or sometimes cut.

Most diamond testers have a UV light. I've got a little magnifier with a UV, which is perfectly adequate, cost about 12 dollars. From China. ;)

Here is the very ordinary little flashlight I used for the amber photo I posted earlier. It cost about 2 euros, add a few cents for dollars.
It makes Burmese rubies light up like demons eyes, which I occasionally do just for the fun of it:). Just Burmese ones, most other rubies are virtually or totally inert.
