I saw that while googling these - what is engine turned guilloche? Sounds like a Indy 500 pit stop manuever!

There is a special machine that cuts an intricate spiral or straight line design into the plate of sterling. After the plate is crafted into the object, then colored enamel is applied to the cut surface, creating that shimmery effect.
Here is a video showing the basic technique.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I don't know about it... but just found this explanation online.
"'Engine Turning' is, both traditionally and logically, a completely unambiguous term. It is the surface finish which results from the use of a Rose Engine, a Straight-Line Engine, more rarely a Brocade Engine, or at times equivalent apparatus in an Ornamental Turning lathe. As such, it is a patterned finish produced by the geometric application of a single-point cutting tool .... An engine turned (guilloché) surface may, optionally, subsequently be enameled with a translucent enamel."

There are lots of images on this page to help with understanding...

You do get unenamelled engine turned decoration as well. It's lovely stuff, those vivid pastels are gorgeous.
