Any idea what to call this necklace, purchased in Africa in the 70's

Check Sanskrit against the language you can't read. Dollars to donuts the script will be the same. Nepalese too.

If you're going to sell it online, adding the word 'boho' and/or 'bohemian' will attract the fashionista types :) Also, 'ethnic' and 'tribal'.

Try to avoid using the word bone, as people trying to sell ivory use that word as a getaround, and eBay knows it.

A necklace I made and listed on there was pulled because it was described as carved bone, because it really is---bone. They wanted me to send them a copy of the receipt from the jewelry supply place I got the components from, or at least show them where they are on the website they came from. Unfortunately, I bought them many years ago, and the company isn't selling the same ones any more.

Say it has a magic spell and the wearer gets three wishes, or that it is haunted, was thought to have been owned by Elvis, ...

Will I hear groans if I say you could call it George? Ok, no more wine for me.

arts farm - where did you take the photo on your avatar? I did this in colored pencil on blue mat board from a photo I took at the Wild Animal Park in San Diego years ago. White Bird (800x616).jpg

Wow, beautiful work! I took the photo about 2 years ago when I moved to Madeira Beach, Florida. I was walking along the gulf, and that bird stayed right in front of me, for about 1/2 hour. I'd move ahead, then he/she did. I stopped, and he/she stopped. it was really neat.
Here's another one from the same day: 10-1 BIRDS6.jpg

Really late on this one but just to add a bit more trivia, the teeth used in those are usually equine-I think donkey. Agree that you shouldn't mention teeth or bone and certainly not ivory. I sold them in the 70s when I was working for an Asian dealer in NY.
