If the name on mine was a little more distinct I could narrow it down.

 

I am looking at mine again with fresh eyes, and thinking maybe it is an unfinished work... I don't know if others would agree?

I wish I could equate what appears to be a signature on the front, with the carved name on the frame. It certainly looks like 'Nicol' on frame, but not seeing how it could be on front? Could it be an older frame re-used??

 

No, I don't agree. Yours appears to be a fully finished work. Have you posted a photograph of the frame? (In a quick scroll back, I couldn't find it.)

I believe this is the work of William Nicol. Sotheby's sold a piece by him titled " The Lighthouse Tower" in their 1988 auction lot #171.

 

This should be sold to Gieco for their next commercial run " I could have saved up to 20% on my insurance by switching to Geico !"
